Therfield First School

“Bringing Learning to Life”

Welcome

A very warm welcome to the website for Therfield First School

Hello there!

It is an honour and pleasure to be the Headteacher at Therfield First School and I absolutely love my job.  This year marks my eighth year leading the school, having previously taught and led in a larger village school for 14 years.  I hope that our website gives you an insight into what life at Therfield is like for our pupils and families.  If you have any unanswered questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.  Let me tell you a little bit more about our wonderful school.

We are a small village school, with a ‘friendly feel’, welcoming pupils from Reception to Year 4. We are a happy school where our pupils are at the heart of everything we do. Our motto of ‘Bringing Learning to Life’ encompasses the school's creative curriculum and emphasis on high participative learning. Our small size and high adult/child ratios ensures that all children receive a personalised provision.  We are committed to the safety, mental health and wellbeing of our whole community and provide a high-quality education in a supportive, caring and inclusive environment.

Set in a beautiful village location, our school is stimulating and well-resourced, where passionate teachers and support staff develop children’s curiosity and independence as learners. We place high emphasis on outside and practical learning, including weekly forest school sessions for all classes. In addition to our broad and rich curriculum, our pupils benefit from specialist music, PE and mindfulness teaching.

At Therfield First School, pupils are taught how they can make a difference to others. This includes within our school, the local community and wider world. Our school really is a special place to learn and grow. Our small size allows every pupil to make an active contribution to school life. Through our nurturing environment and emphasis on growth mindset, pupils quickly gain independence, confidence, resilience and high self-esteem. Above everything else, we are a happy school, with happy pupils, happy parents, happy staff and happy governors.

I would be delighted to talk to you more about our school and welcome the opportunity to show you around so that you can see for yourself first-hand.
