“Bringing Learning to Life”
In Honeypot Class, our Literacy lessons are taught through half termly topics. Each half term we have between one and five core texts that the children use to bring their learning to life. These texts link directly to the topic and allow the children to learn new vocabulary and enjoy cross curricular links during their choosing times.
The children love to get to know the different stories using small world characters, drama and role play and retelling the story using pictures and story maps. When the children become more confident in their phonics and writing, they begin to write labels, captions and simple sentences.
In Reception, the children learn through play. Within our provision, the children have many different activities and areas where they are able to learn the different reading, writing and listening skills with more independence allowing the learning activities to develop around the children's interests.
In Honeypot Class, we follow 'Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised'. We have daily 20 minute lessons which are supported by visuals, songs and actions. The children start on phase 1 and work towards phase 4. Within choosing, there are plenty of activities that support the children's phonic skills, allowing them to acess this learning through a play based approach.
