Attendance

We have a strict no absence in term-time policy at Therfield First School, except for pupil illness.  Holidays in term-time, including one day requests, will be authorised by the Headteacher only in “exceptional circumstances”, as defined by the Department of Education. If the school is unable to authorise the absence and parents still choose to take their child out of school, then the absence will be recorded as unauthorised. All requests for time off during the school term will need to be made in writing to the headteacher who will follow up each request with a short face-to-face meeting.

The school rigorously monitors the attendance of all of its pupils.  Regular contact will be made to parents where attendance causes the school a concern.

Illness - if your child is ill please notify the school, either by email or telephone as soon as possible, by 9.30am at the latest. If your child has diarrhoea or sickness, they are unable to return to school until 48 hours after the last bout of sickness/diarrhoea. This is to protect the health of the other children and staff and is in accordance with Health Protection Agency guidelines.

Medical Appointments - please let the class teacher and the office know in advance if your child has a medical appointment. Wherever possible please try to make these appointments outside of school hours.
