Attendance

We have a strict no absence in term-time policy at Therfield First School, except for pupil illness.  Holidays in term-time, including one day requests, will only be authorised by the Headteacher in “exceptional circumstances”, as defined by the Department of Education. If the school is unable to authorise the absence and parents still choose to take their child out of school, then the absence will be recorded as unauthorised and a penalty notice may issued by Herts County Council.

The school rigorously monitors the attendance of all of its pupils and parents receive an email providing their child's year to date attendance at the end of each half term.

Illness - if your child is ill please notify the school, either by email or telephone as soon as possible, by 8.45am at the latest. If your child has diarrhoea or sickness, they are unable to return to school until 48 hours after the last bout of sickness/diarrhoea. This is to protect the health of the other children and staff in accordance with Health Protection Agency guidelines.

Medical Appointments - please let the school office know in advance if your child has a medical appointment. Wherever possible please try to make these appointments outside of school hours.
