“Bringing Learning to Life”

Summer 1 - Anglo Saxons

Need for Speed

For our BIG BANG, we created balloon rockets. We had to see if we could get our balloon rocket from one chair to another chair using a balloon and other equipment. Some of us were successful whilst others had lots of fun trying.

In English, we looked at the very imaginative book called “The Tunnel” by Anthony Browne. We wrote scary setting descriptions and discussed in detail the relationship and dynamics between the characters.

As part of our science lessons, we looked at how magnets are used in recycling and which metals are magnetic. We had fun making funny faces using magnetic filings and we also learnt about the different types of forces that we use in every day life.

In history lessons, we discovered how the railways changed the way that people travelled and went on holiday. We also created beautiful Art Deco train pictures inspired by vintage posters during our art lessons.

Across the school, we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by having a tea party, taking part in a whole school art masterclass and we wrote a bibliography poster about the Queen’s life in class. We also re-enacted the Queen’s Coronation in the local church and were very excitedly visited by an author and her corgi, Ditto.
