French in Rooks Nest
Pupils begin learning French when they enter Rooks Nest Class, in Year 3. French is taught as a weekly discrete lesson, although wherever possible, and appropriate, links are made to the class topic. Therfield First School follows the Language Angels scheme and children also have access to their games at home through their website.
We learn important words and phrases in French that we could use in everyday life. Each lesson build progressively on the previous to allow for confident language learning toward short sentences. In every lesson, practise and speak words and phrases solo or in pairs and have opportunities to read and experience French books and rhymes . This year, we have learnt the fruits, animals, hobbies and how to order food at a cafe.
