“Bringing Learning to Life”

Honeypot Class - Reception

Welcome to our Class page!

We are Honeypot Class. Our Teacher is Miss Haxton and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Moule and Miss Adams.

We have such a wonderful learning environment, consisting of an inside and outside space as well as the school grounds. We really enjoy using all the different areas during our Child Initiated Learning (CIL). We love to be creative and independent.

It is wonderful to see the children using these learning areas in different ways which support their own learning styles and interests. As class adults, we constantly support the children’s interests by adapting areas within the classroom – this encourages the children to continue to explore, investigate and learn through their own excitement.

The children's first year of school is extremely special and important. In Honeypot Class we ensure that they gain confidence and courage in the foundation skills to move happily throughout the school. During their time in Reception, children will continue their journey of learning to read and write. We aim to provide a print rich learning environment for our pupils and to encourage them to make marks in all areas of the curriculum. Children begin their phonics lessons within the first few weeks of school. Within phonics children will be introduced to the letters and sounds through the 'Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised' scheme. These sessions are supported by visuals, songs and rhymes. Children also begin their mathematical journey, learning to recognise numbers and shapes and then assign meaning to these numbers, understanding ‘the threeness of three!’ through the White Rose Maths scheme.

We are very proud of our exciting and engaging learning environment, where we have a free flow between our classroom and outside space.  There you will find lots of different areas designed to stimulate curiosity, awe and wonder and promote high quality child-initiated learning opportunities.
